Culburra Beach for Surfers

CULBURRA BEACH FOR SURFERS

Directly in front of the house is a section of the beach favoured by surfers so if you're a surfer, you're front and centre all day to watch the conditions.

World champion surfers Owen, Tyler and Mikey Wright learned to surf on the beach break right in front of this house. (They grew up a couple of houses away.)

If the waves aren't cranking on Culburra Beach, there's another surf beach very close by. Warrain Beach begins on the south side of Penguin Head and trends to the south for 3.7 km. Car parking is provided at the Nowra-Culburra SLSC (founded 1954). The entire beach receives waves averaging 1.4 m, which are reduced around the surf club by some close-in reefs. Between the reefs and the northern headland the waves commonly produce two rips; while south of the reef, rips occur every 200-300 m. The intervening bar is usually attached, only detaching following periods of high waves.

CULBURRA BEACH FOR CHILDREN

The south end of Culburra Beach, a short stroll along the sand, is great for small children as it's sheltered from all but small waves and there are rock pools to explore both there and at the north end.
